After two years of being unable to celebrate in person, it was so wonderful to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of our students from across all our schools and programs in 2021 at our annual Best of Business and Law Awards yesterday. Across the afternoon, and together with many of our industry partners, we were able to recognise more than 55 of our graduates from the College of Business and Law.

Workplace gender inequality is an enduring, global socio-economic problem and despite significant strides made over many decades, most Australian workplaces continue to exhibit gender inequalities. This research, conducted by the RMIT Global Transport and Logistics Research Group and funded by the Commission for Gender Equality in Public Sector, identifies the factors of sustaining workplace gender inequalities, and the ways through which practices and processes could be changed to facilitate progress towards a more gender equal workplace.

Nobel Laureate, former World Bank Chief Economist, and best-selling author Professor Joseph E. Stiglitz delivers the inaugural Laurie Carmichael Lecture. He addresses the economic importance and benefits of trade unions. This annual lecture is sponsored by the Carmichael Centre, a new initiative of the Centre for Future Work at The Australia Institute, which undertakes research and education activities related to the legacy of former union leader Laurie Carmichael.

The Laurie Carmichael Lecture at RMIT University in Melbourne featuring Sharan Burrow, former General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (2010-2022) and President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (2000–2010). Sharan spoke on the topic of 'Global Worker Solidarity for a Peaceful, Sustainable World', and answered audience questions, facilitated by ACTU Assistant Secretary Joseph Mitchell. This lecture is an annual keynote lecture hosted by the Carmichael Centre, an initiative of the Australia Institute's Centre for Future Work, and RMIT University.
