RMIT Distinguished Professor Calum Drummond AO Appointed Chair of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Advisory Committee

RMIT University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research & Innovation, Distinguished Professor Calum Drummond AO FAA FTSE FAICD FNAI (USA), has been named as the independent Chair of the ARC Advisory Committee.

The establishment of the ARC Advisory Committee is expected to enhance the contestability of ARC policy, bringing new perspectives to policy discussions and strengthening governance and accountability, as outlined under the Australian Research Council Act 2001. The Advisory Committee, which comprises experts from universities, industry, civil society, and public administration, will assist the ARC Board in determining priorities and strategies to maximise the impact of ARC-funded research.

Commenting following the news of his appointment, Professor Drummond stated, "I am excited to chair the ARC Advisory Committee and look forward to facilitating the provision of strategic advice that enhances the Australian Research Council's policy frameworks. I am sure that the diverse collective expertise of the Committee will ensure robust and insightful advice is provided to the ARC."

ARC Chief Executive Officer, Professor Ute Roessner AM FAA, welcomed Drummond's appointment along with the new committee members, highlighting the importance of diverse and strategic advice to ensure the ARC continues to fund research that delivers maximum impact for the Australian community.

The Committee’s establishment reflects the government's commitment to maintaining the ARC as a cornerstone of Australia's research landscape, with recent financial investments exceeding $1.08 billion in research funding during the 2024-2025 financial year.
